Title: Obsession
Author: kerrymdb, or on FF.net
Rating/Warnings: PG-13/T, adult themes, sexual situations
Characters and Ships: Tonks, Snape, Remus, Remus/Tonks, Snape/Tonks
Summary: In her heart, Nymphadora Tonks knows that Remus Lupin is the only man for her. Then why can’t she get Severus Snape out of her head?
Why you should read this: I went into this story expecting another Remus/Tonks tale with the twist of a love triangle with Snape. What I found instead was a fascinating look at Tonks slowly falling out of love with Remus, and into love with Snape. It caught me by surprise, but I thoroughly enjoyed the ride--so much so that soon after reading this Snape/Tonks had become my AU OTP.  Set during OotP, HBP, and an AU book 7 this story portrays the main characters very in-character, but highlights different elements of their characters than most other fanfic. What impressed me the most, as a Remus fangirl, was how she could write a Remus that was a total jerk, but who was just as consistent with canon characterization as the fanon Remus I had come to know and love. She also took a sympathetic look at Snape, creating a wonderful back story for him, and still making him very much the Snape we love from canon (if slightly more romantic--but only slightly). All in all it is a fascinating study of three very damaged, very real individuals as they fall in and out of love.

Amid My Solitude
by jncar (jncar)
at August 24th, 2007 (07:45 pm)

Title: Amid My Solitude
Author: sam_storyteller, aka copperbadge, aka samvimes
Rating and warnings: R, sex, violence, gore
Characters and Ships: Remus, Tonks, Harry, Snape, Fred, George, Remus/Tonks
Summary: Remus Lupin, dependable, able, and trustworthy werewolf, has been tapped as Dumbledore's right hand in the new Order, leader of the fight against the re-formed Death Eaters. While trying to be Harry's new guardian, fumbling his way through a beginning romance, and calming suspicions of spies in the Order, Remus must chase his werewolf heritage -- though it may cost him the elusive happiness he desperately craves.
Why you should read this: This is one of the great pre-Half Blood Prince Remus/Tonks storys. fernwithy's Shifts first won me over to the idea of Remus/Tonks, but Amid My Solitude cemented it in my mind as my canon OTP. The characterization of Remus is spot on, even today, and the touching and believable romance is interwoven with a fascinating and well-crafted plot that is still fun to read, no matter how AU it is two books later.

Title: Seven
Author: metallicafangirl
Rating and warnings: PG-13/T
Characters and Ships: Blaise/Hermione mainly with slight Harry/Draco
Summary: Hermione has to survive a week of Arithmancy lessons, potentially insane stalkers, annoying Housemates, stolen seats and forgotten homework, and remain sane throughout it all. She might survive, she might not.
Why you should read this: Horribly romantic, sexy Slytherin's and goinginsane!Hermione. Amusing as hell and fluffy to boot :) Pretty much everything by this author should be read and enjoyed, this is just the one which first sprung to mind.

The Student in Question
by jncar (jncar)

Posted on behalf of electric_ellie

Title: The Student In Question
Author: Jan. McNeville
Rating and warnings: PG-13/T
Characters and Ships: HG/SS with some HP/GW.Other characters include Narcissa Malfoy, 2 OCs, Dumbledore, Lucius Malfoy and some Ron.
Summary: Okay, the student and professor fancy each other. This is great. With Yankees at Hogwarts, the coming war, Moldy-Voldy in all his ickyness and a good splash of alcohol, what happens?
Why you should read this: Hilariously funny, involves American's at Hogwarts in a way which somehow seems plausible and is just horrendously funny. Despite the fact I'm British I thoroughly enjoyed the American culture brought in. Also the characterisation of Snape is very fanon, but very humorous, wonderful.

Hannah [userpic]
by Hannah (penhaligonblue)

Title: Winter of Discontent
Author: rosemaryandrue
Rating and warnings: PG-13 for the most part; one chapter is R/NC-17
Characters and Ships: Remus/Sirius, James/Lily, Peter, Ted Tonks, Andromeda Tonks, Alice Longbottom, Frank Longbottom, Mad-Eye Moody
Summary: An ensemble piece set in the winter after the Marauders leave Hogwarts, this story follows Remus and Sirius, both aurors-in-training, as they attempt to find out who's behind a recent spate of attacks on Muggleborns. Almost as puzzling for them is the residual attraction from their past relationship. In the meantime, the country suffers from social unrest, Peter seems to be hiding something, and James can't find the courage to ask Lily a certain question.
Why you should read this: This story won me over not just to the Remus/Sirius ship, but to fandom in general. I thank goodness J.K. Rowling has no plans for a prequel, because nothing could surpass this: spot-on characterizations, delightful dialogue, lively accounts of the daily grind at the Ministry, evocative depictions of 1970's London, and a gripping mystery to boot!

Title: Accidentally In Love
Author: </a></b></a>lls_mutant
Rating and warnings: R (sex, violence, language)
Characters and Ships: Remus/Sirius, Lily/James
Summary: Sirius and Remus both had their own reasons for never falling in love. But since when does love listen to reason?
Why you should read this: It's personally my favorite fanfiction out there. It nails Remus and Sirius's character, it's funny, poignant, and beautiful.

Title: Fairy Boy's
Author: </a></b></a>thieving_gypsy
Rating and warnings: R
Characters and Ships: Remus/Sirius
Summary: Glam rock fever grips Gryffindor Tower, and various love affairs are carried out to the glitterific sounds of Brian Slade and Curt Wild.
Why you should read this: It's hilarious and a completely unique perspective on Remus/Sirius. I've never seen them portrayed like this, exactly, but it's completely plausible.

3 Harry/Draco Classics

Irresistible Poison
Author: </a></b></a>iscaris
Rating and warnings: PG-13
Characters and Ships: Harry/Draco
Summary: Under the influence of a love potion, Draco learns that poison doesn't always bring death.
Why you should read this: It's a classic. I mean, in some places on the web the ship is practically named after this fanfiction.

Title: Underwater Light
Author: </a></b></a>sarahtales
Rating and warnings: PG-13
Characters and Ships: Harry/Draco
Summary: Featuring an extremely depressed Harry, in a war-torn wizarding world, about to get the shock of his life when he discovers that Draco Malfoy is slightly more important to him than he would have ever guessed. Including a very odd friendship, lots of angst, suspicions, conflicted loyalties, clueless Ron, on-the-warpath Hermione and two very messed-up boys.
Why you should read this: This is one of those fanfictions that will completely twist your view on a ship. I assure you, in a good way. It's funny and at times wonderfully poetic. Deffinitley pulls you in.

Title: Beautiful World
Author: Cinnamon
Rating and warnings: R
Characters and Ships: Harry/Draco
Summary: Draco is afraid of living and Harry is afraid of dying, but sometimes the choice isn't offered. Draco's got to learn what it is to really live, while showing Harry how beautiful the world really is when you're not too scared to see it.
Why you should read this: It's vivid and heartbreaking. I'd call it the Romeo and Juliet of Harry Potter.

"A Fair Fellowship of Young Squires"
by jncar (jncar)
at August 21st, 2007 (10:55 pm)

Title: A Fair Fellowship of Young Squires
Author: a_t_rain, After the Rain at FictionAlley
Rating and warnings: G
Characters and Ships: Sir Cadogan, Peter, Remus, Sirius, James
Summary: Sir Cadogan tells the story of King Arthur to a group of first year boys.
Why you should read this: a_t_rain is an excellent writer with a wonderful talent for writing both drama and humor with equal fluency. Her Marauder-era stories were the very first Marauder-centric stories that I ever read, and they still stand out in my mind as my favorites. Though she has only written three Marauder-era stories, they are the ones I always think of when I am trying to characterize the Marauders during their school-days, and this is the best of the three stories. She weaves brilliant characterization and Arthurian legend into a rich and wonderfully satisfying portrait of the first-year Marauders, complete with an air of ominous foreshadowing. I especially appreciate how human and real she makes Peter--in her stories he is an important part of the Marauders, not just a hanger-on.

Her other Marauder-era fics are fun, prank-filled comic romps and are also full of wonderful characterization of the slightly older Marauders. They are also well worth reading. Here's the links: The Adventures of Icarus, the Invisible Poltergeist , Correspondence Course.

Shifts and Shades
by jesspallas (jesspallas)
at August 21st, 2007 (08:10 am)

Title: Shifts & Shades
Author: fernwithy
Rating and warnings: PG-13
Characters and Ships: Remus/Tonks, Sirius, Dudley, Ted and Andromeda Tonks, Narcissa Malfoy, various OCs
Summary: Shifts: Remus Lupin is employed as a history teacher at Smeltings in order to watch over Dudley Dursley. Set OotP. Shades: Sequel to Shifts, following Remus' attempts to save young werewolves from Fenrir Greyback and Tonks' work protecting Hogsmeade during HBP
Why you should read this: I thought I'd get in with this one before anyone else did. A wonderful pair of stories, imaginative and full of clever plot, believable and likeable OCs, which has Remus teaching again (which can only be good), makes Dudley Dursley into a sympathetic character and shows the slow burn of the Remus/Tonks relationship from friendship to love quite beautifully, leading into HBP and the plot of Shades. The whole series is beautifully written and wonderfully realised. Oh and there's talk of a DH follow up in the offing too which should be worth waiting for. :)

"This Stony Pass"
by jncar (jncar)
at August 17th, 2007 (10:41 am)

Title: This Stony Pass
Author: jncar
Rating and warnings: PG-13, sexuality, swearing, love triangle
Characters and Ships: Tonks, Snape, Remus, Remus/Tonks, Snape/Tonks
Summary: When Remus leaves, Tonks starts to fall apart. With the unexpected help of Severus Snape she begins to pull herself back together, but is left wondering how to move forward—and how to help Remus when he is so determined to keep pushing her away. Set during HBP.
Author’s Notes: This is the third in an ongoing series, but could be read on its own with minimal confusion. I posted the whole thing in the month leading up to DH, fully expecting it to be canon-thrashed. But it wasn't! Hooray! I even got Snape pretty much right on for DH-canon-compliance.

This is yet another "Tonks dealing with Remus leaving her during HBP" story, but I've added the twist of a love triangle with Snape. It's pretty angsty, so only read it if you're in the mood for that sort of thing.

Title: A Time to Fall
Author: elanne
Rating and warnings: G, no warnings
Characters and ships: Weasley family gen
Summary: Molly lost two boys in the first war. She doesn't think she can bear to lose another.
Why you should read this: This fic is heartbreaking and spookily prophetic. It gets into the heads of Molly and her children like nothing I've ever read before.

Graveside Manna
at August 14th, 2007 (11:33 am)

Title: Graveside Manna
Author: jdbracknell, all fic at brack_books
Rating and warnings: PG-13
Characters and Ships: Harry, Remus, Ron, Hermione, Tonks (mostly gen, hints of R/T)
Summary: Harry didn’t think too much about not having any parents. Dumbledore had told him it didn’t do to dwell, and so he didn’t – but a trip to their final resting place means he has no choice but to come to terms with their deaths, and what lies ahead.
Author’s Notes: I'd had in mind for ages to write about Remus taking Harry to Godric's Hollow, so this was the one fic I absolutely had to write before DH came out.

gilpin25 [userpic]
by gilpin25 (gilpin25)
at August 14th, 2007 (10:19 am)

Title: Unspecial
Author: bratanimus
Rating and warnings: PG-13; language.
Characters and Ships: Remus and Lily friendship; James/Lily.
Summary: “I rush to the window and fling it wide, grateful that another friend lives another day, and I start crying suddenly and fully, as if it were a mere continuation of an ongoing wail, which I suppose it probably is.” In wartime, a heavily pregnant Lily discovers what the cost of being 'normal' really is.
Why you should read this: Originally written for the Tales of Whiskey and Regret Challenge at redandthewolf. This is an extremely convincing look at living life in the middle of a war and the stresses and strains it puts on the people coping with it. It's also a wonderful read about a young woman who is literally bursting with the fear and frustration of no longer being able to be in the thick of things herself, alongside her overwhelming joy - and trepidation - at her impending motherhood. When Remus apparently comes to cheer her up, you might think you know how the story will go from then on in, but you'd be wrong...

There's a real 'emotionally charged' quality to bratanimus's writing in this fic, as though all the pent up fear and loneliness in Lily is pouring out in a torrent of words and feelings. She's tremendously good at getting right into the heads of characters, and getting you immediately caught up in their lives, and you are from the word go with this one. And in the line of recent events in a certain book, it should enhance her reputation as a future Trelawney if she ever wishes to pursue another career. ;)

A Good Life
by kerrymdb (kerrymdb)
at August 14th, 2007 (12:21 am)

Title: A Good Life
Author: lyras
Rating and warnings: PG
Characters and Ships: Neville Longbottom, OC (reporter) and mystery woman
Summary: A hundred years after Voldemort's defeat, a reporter is sent to interview Neville Longbottom.

Why you should read this: This reads more as a love letter to Neville than a story. But it's brilliant. If you're wondering what might have happened 100 years down the road, not just 19, take a look. And it's not just the characters. How might have magic changed in a hundred years? Are the reporters the same? Rita Skeeter, anyone... But more importantly, how is Neville doing in life at 117?

Nymphadora Tonks and the Liquor of Jacmel
by snorkackcatcher (snorkackcatcher)

Title: Nymphadora Tonks and the Liquor of Jacmel
Author: snorkackcatcher (fics at snorkfics)
Rating: PG-13
Characters: Tonks, Ted, Andromeda, Kingsley, Rufus Scrimgeour, Gawain Robards, Williamson, Original Characters, Remus, Sirius, various other canon characters
Ships: Tonks/OC, Ted/Andromeda, OC/OC
Summary: It's never plain sailing for a newly-qualified Auror, and especially not for Nymphadora Tonks. Her Metamorphmagus talents are a big career advantage. Her dark wizard relatives certainly aren't. Being thrown in at the deep end on her first case doesn't make things any easier, either. So when Tonks puts her shapeshifting skills to good use investigating the trade in a highly dangerous potion, while simultaneously trying to deal with her family's very 'Black' past history, things quickly get complicated ...
Author's Notes: Oh, why not ... The revised version 2.0 of this novel-length 'Tonks' First Case' mystery set during GoF (so not Remus/Tonks at this stage, although they do meet) was completed in the last week before DH, which jossed it in some secondary details but left most of it surprisingly intact (even the portrayals of Ted and Andromeda). Now if only that callous murderess Rowling hadn't killed off the central character ... :(

Twenty Shipping Drabbles
by snorkackcatcher (snorkackcatcher)
at August 13th, 2007 (10:16 pm)

Title: Twenty Shipping Drabbles
Author: snorkackcatcher (fics at snorkfics)
Rating: R
Characters: Various!
Ships: Also various!
Summary: Twenty unrelated drabbles about some rather rare pairings.
Author's Notes:
Inspired by metafrantic's Great Harry Potter Drabble Challenge comm and my earlier Twenty Sibling Drabbles collection from a year ago. The protagonists aren't named as a challenge to the reader, but hopefully it should be possible to work out the POVs and settings! (There's a list at the end for reference.) Het, slash, femmeslash, interspecies -- oh, and crack. Much crack. One or two are perhaps a trifle sneaky, and a few were more-or-less jossed by DH, but ...

snorkackcatcher [userpic]
by snorkackcatcher (snorkackcatcher)

Title: Unmarked
Author: snorkackcatcher (fics at snorkfics)
Rating: R
Characters: Lucius Malfoy, Marcus Flint, Draco Malfoy, Narcissa Malfoy, Severus Snape, Voldemort
Ships: Lucius Malfoy/Marcus Flint, background Lucius Malfoy/Narcissa Malfoy
Summary: Participation in the game of power has left Lucius Malfoy with many marks. Marcus Flint has none, and Lucius finds this appealing. But there are many complications in the course of their six year relationship ...
Author's Notes: Originally begun for the 2006 FAP OTP Challenge (you get two random characters and a random connector to make a sentence, and have to write a story which incorporates that sentence, in this case "Lucius Malfoy has the hots for Marcus Flint"). What should have been a simple slashfic turned into a plotty 14K-word monster, worked on from time to time and not finished until just before DH came out. Runs from CoS through HBP and beyond; DH went off in a somewhat different direction, but canon-compatible up to then. Many thanks to kennahijja for her detailed beta notes.

Title: Raw http://community.livejournal.com/metamorfic_moon/89216.html
(I’m sorry, I don’t know how to do a nice neat link!)
Author: gilpin25
Rating and warnings: R for situations of an intimate nature.
Characters and Ships: Remus/Tonks
Summary: Remus Lupin has made his way so steadily into her life, then into her heart – or was it the other way round? – that now she can’t imagine a time when he wasn’t always there. Tonks wakes up on the morning after the night before and finds the world as she knew it isn't quite the same.
Why you should read this: This fic won the Reader’s Award at the metamorfic_moon Last Chance Full Moon Showdown Challenge and it’s easy to see why; it’s a touching, well characterised and evocative depiction of the Remus/Tonks pairing during OotP.

Apologies for such a rubbishly written recommendation - I'm the world's worst reviewer/reccer! But it's really good. Please enjoy. :)
